collect in the bottom catch bucket. JollyGreenFL - Turning Waste Into Wonderful The Wormdorf Astoria: Bedding MaterialsHere are a few of the materials you can use as bedding in the Wormdorf Astoria. The bedding provides a habitat for the worms to live in. Some moist, some dry. Over time these items will break down and be consumed. Ultimately they too will become worm castings.
JollyGreenFL - Turning Waste Into Wonderful The Wormdorf Astoria: Harvesting CastingsThis is a simple way of harvesting worm castings by using a cat litter tray. Pile up the castings to one side. Use a light to drive down the worms. Sort the top layer of castings to the other side of the tray. Continue this process until you just have a pile of worms. Put the worms into your Wormdorf Astoria with fresh moist bedding and some food to start the proces all over again.

Projects and ExperimentsLarge Scale Worm BinThis is my large sclae worm bin I have been using for several months. It was built using reclaimed wood pallets. I process newspaper, cardboard, food waste, dried leaves, and other various items in this bin. It is great for experimenting on items the worms will/won't break down.
If you are interested in having a large bin built locally contact me at [email protected] for pricing. Extreme Composting: ShellfishNot really extreme, but definitly not the norm. These shells would take a long time to break down in my yard waste composter. This is a quick way to recycle them. Boil them first, then grind them up. Great way to get some extra calcium into your soil.
JollyGreenFL: Turning Waste Into Wonderful! Worm seperation experimentAlways trying to find an easier way to seperate my worms from their castings. I tried driving them in reverse (down) by placing them in a screened tray and using light to force them down.
